This event is organised by the meSch partner Allard Pierson Museum and is part of the Virtual Museum Network Amsterdam Meetup Series.

More and more museums rely on hand-held devices, such as smart phones and tablets, to improve and personalize the museum visit. An Augmented Reality (AR) trail can be a great way to let your visitors explore your collections in a new and engaging way. When visitors look at objects through their handheld device, an extra visual layer will appear onscreen, providing additional information or content. This so-called ‘overlay’ appears once the AR application recognises a ‘marker,’ often an image or icon.

But what makes for a successful and easy to use Augmented Reality experience? The Allard Pierson Museum has tested the use of AR in its recent exhibition Eternal Egypt Experience and will share some of the main findings of the audience research that was carried out. There will also be an opportunity to test two different kinds of do-it-yourself AR applications. We will end the Meetup with a discussion about the pros and cons of AR, as well as some of the potential pitfalls in relation to in-house development.

This is a free event, please RSVP via this link.
